primary research
By conducting primary research, we were able to see which thrillers people prefer to watch, and which thrillers were not popular.
We found out that the most popular thriller sub genres were spy thrillers and action thrillers, and the least favourite were drama thrillers, legal thrillers and techno thrillers.
This means that the thriller we should compose should be a thriller like an action thriller.

We also found out that the most popular convention for a thriller film is suspense. We can use this information in our final piece by making sure we put in a slot of suspense to keep the audience interesting in what is interesting. The next most popular convention is finding out about the antagonist. We agonist, but doing it in a way that keeps the audience in suspense, not really showing them everything all at once but revealing small parts of information to keep the audience on their toes.

We also found out what people thought were the biggest clichés in the thriller market. Surprisingly we found out that a lot of the older generation thought that gore was a big cliché, and that it didn’t make a thriller film more exciting that perhaps enigmas that are expected to be explained. This allows us to perhaps rule out excessive use of gore in our thriller opening. Another cliché people did not like was when the protagonist walks into very obvious traps. So in out thriller we aim to give the protagonist some brains. However, this cliché is very good at establishing suspense. There is the possibility of using the cliché, but as a bluff. Creating the suspense, then when there is obviously nothing behind the door, for example, the audiences climax has gently returned to normal, then suddenly something happens and it can have much more effect as the audience were not expecting it.
The one thing that most people wanted in the thriller was unexpected twists, something that we will most definitely be putting into our thriller opening.
